General Support
General Support for Carers in the Greater Manchester Area
Carers UK are here to make sure that no matter how complicated your query or your experience, you don’t have to care alone. Crossroads Together is a registered charity dedicated to providing information, advice and practical support to unpaid carers of all ages and the people they care for. Their organisation is called “Lifted” because their aim is to “elevate parent carers who have a child/adult with special needs”. They strive to make a positive difference and improve the health and well-being of those carers using the service. Offering 1-1 support, guidance & advocacy and assistance with completing forms. Their goal is to provide carers with a collective voice, and to provide the reassurance that someone is listening. Just knowing that someone cares can be a lifeline. With their support groups and fun activities and advocacy for carers we aim to be that lifeline. Trafford Carers Centre offer a range of services including: Counselling, befriending, benefit advice, and a variety of social activity groups. From the ages of 16-25, we can offer education and employment support, groups and activities along with free and confidential advice in order to balance their life with their caring role. Financial Support
For information and advice around the benefits you are receiving or benefits you think you may be entitled to. They are currently running an appointment only service, so ring to make an appointment. Alternatively, use the webpage to find out more specific details on different areas regarding benefits. They want to make sure everyone who is entitled to benefits is empowered to claim them, which is why they provide information around benefits and a benefits calculator. They understand that the UK’s benefits system is very complicated. So, they have tried to simplify the system so people can quickly find out what financial support they may be entitled to. They have a cost-of-living guide where you can find out what help is available with the cost of living if you’re claiming benefits
Support for Carers from Minority Ethnic Backgrounds
ACCG runs a lively and friendly Day Care and community service for people aged 50 and over, primarily for African Caribbean people. The have a wide range of support services. African and Caribbean Mental Health Services (ACMHS) endeavors to inform and empower individuals to identify their own health needs and the resources to deal with them in order to be more resilient to stress and illness. A culturally specific service run by Asian carers in Manchester. Working together to help and support services for the South Asian Community in Manchester. Wai Yin Society is an organisation led by Chinese women, which provides Education and Social Welfare services to minority communities in the North West of England. They are based at 66-68 Swan Street, Manchester, M4 5JU, and can be contacted on 0161 833 0377.
Health Specific Support

They support people across Manchester and North Trafford to live positively with dementia. Services include Friendship & Activity groups, social outings, short-term carer respite and free carer training for family care partners. Mental Health Support
Connect Support is an organisation which is involved in a wide range of activities to address the diverse needs of carers. In addition to providing their own carer support service, volunteer scheme and support groups, we also work closely with other mental health services, organisations and education programs. Samaritans provides emotional support for anyone who’s struggling to cope, who needs someone to listen without judgment or pressure. You can telephone 116 123, which is free from any phone at any time of the day or you can email jo@samaritans.org for support.
Immigration and Legal Support
Their friendly and dedicated front-of-house reception staff will try to help you with all your enquiries. If they can deal with your enquiry, we will arrange an appointment with one of our case workers or monthly legal advice clinics. Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit is a voluntary organisation supporting people subject to immigration control for over 25 years. they offer free legal advice, representation and support services to people seeking asylum, refugees, children and vulnerable adults. Rainbow Surprise CIO is to provide skills for life, inspiring activities and diverse services to meet the needs of local people and create a strong and vibrant community with events that bring people from different faiths and cultures together to improve community cohesion. They run a local community shop in Crumpsall, where they stock: chilled food, fruit and veg, tinned food, toiletries, clothes, toys and much more.
