SERVICE INFORMATION
Manchester Carers Centre provides a specialist Young Adult Carers (16-25 year olds) service, called I CAN, which provides a range of information, emotional support, and practical help with dedicated staff members for this age group.
Our I CAN Service aims to:
- Improve health and wellbeing of Young Adult Carers.
- Empower and ensure Young Adult Carers are well informed.
- Support Young Adult Carers to achieve their best futures.
- Promote social inclusion, reduce isolation, and help Young Adult Carers to extend their social networks, have fun and a quality of life.
1-to-1 Appointments
We offer tailored 1-to-1 appointments which provide a safe space for Young Adult Carers to discuss any concerns or worries that are affecting them or their caring role. 1-to-1 appointments are offered regularly to Young Adult Carers registered with the service, and sessions with an experienced member of staff can offer support with:
- Mental health issues experienced by young people,
- ensuring your caring role is safe and manageable,
- identifying skills development or training opportunities,
- identifying paid or unpaid work experience,
- employability skills such as CV writing or interview skills,
- accessing grants and funding where available.
1-to-1 support is not limited to the subjects above and we encourage all Young Adult Carers to reach out for support and utilise the sessions with an area they would like to address or access direct support with.
Below is some of the direct feedback we have had from Young Adult Carers who have accessed the 1-to-1 appointments:
“The project helped me with my CV and I got a job as a result.”
“It has helped me with my anxiety and lifted my mood.”
“The staff are always friendly and keen to help in any way they can.”
Social Activities
We offer fun social sessions for Young Adult Carers so they can meet other Carers like themselves, build confidence, and improve social networks. Young Adult Carers direct the kind of activities that we offer and we work to achieve a voice for them.
If you would like to be involved in any of our social events, you can follow our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages or contact our reception team.
Young Adult Carers E-Bulletin
As part of our I CAN service, we to circulate a quarterly (3-monthly) Young Adult Carers E-Bulletin which contains information on our services and upcoming opportunities, mental and physical health resources, events information, and good news/Carers success story articles!
The aim of our Bulletin is to link the Young Adult Carers community together, with information and advice that will provide support to them in their caring role and help them to connect with other Young Adult Carers!
We aim to raise awareness with professionals who work with young people with caring responsibilities, to encourage them to make referrals to our service, so we can provide more Young Adult Carers with the emotional and practical support they need to maintain their mental and physical health.
A link to previous E-Bulletins can be found here.
Our E-Bulletin is the best way to keep informed about our service and upcoming activities. If you would like to receive our quarterly E-Bulletins, we encourage you to join our subscriber list!
