A Message from the Board and CEO. 8.9.25.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the closure of Manchester Carers Centre on 30th September 2025. After nearly 30 years of dedicated service to unpaid carers across Manchester, our journey is coming to an end. We are immensely proud of the thousands of carers we have supported, the positive impact we’ve had on their lives, and the high-quality services we have delivered together with our community.
Our work has always been about more than just services; it has been about relationships. We have been continually inspired by the dedication and selflessness of carers, whose contributions to the well-being of others are truly remarkable. It has been a privilege to serve and work alongside you in the diverse and vibrant communities of Manchester.
As many of you know, the landscape for small charities like ours has become increasingly difficult. The demands on our resources have grown, and the challenge of balancing finances, staffing, and the quality-of-service delivery has taken its toll. We’ve worked tirelessly to adapt, but as the needs of carers have evolved and the landscape has changed, our ability to continue providing the support we believe is necessary has become untenable.
We are fortunate to have been a part of a wider, collaborative network of voluntary sector organisations, including Gaddum and others, who now provide comprehensive support for carers across the city. With their stronger resources and more expansive services, we believe our core mission—to provide broad information and advice—has effectively been fulfilled, and as such, it is no longer sustainable for us to continue.
We have explored every avenue to ensure our services remain strong and our impact continues, but the pressures—financial, operational, and emotional—have made it clear that the resources needed to move forward would risk compromising the care and safety of our beneficiaries. With a heavy heart, the Board has made the decision to close the charity in a controlled and dignified manner, ensuring that current carers are referred to the right support networks and that we fulfil our legal and financial obligations responsibly.
While we are closing, we want to ensure Manchester Carers Centre’s legacy remains one of success and care. We have made a lasting impact on the lives of so many, and we will always be proud of what we’ve achieved together. We intend to close this chapter with dignity, knowing that the work we’ve done has made a difference.
A heartfelt thank you to the carers—your strength, resilience, and selfless dedication have inspired us every day. We also extend our deepest gratitude to our partners in the statutory and voluntary sectors, as well as to our funders: Carers Trust, the National Lottery, Manchester City Council, Our Manchester, the Eric Wright Charitable Trust, and many others who believed in our mission. Your support has been invaluable, and we could not have done this work without you.
We are especially grateful to Carers Trust, our national partner, and to the staff, trustees, and volunteers who have contributed to our success over the years. You have been the backbone of this organisation, and your efforts have built the reputation we carry with pride.
As we begin the final phase of our operations, we will no longer accept new referrals. However, we will continue to support current carers, ensuring they are connected with alternative services. Our website and social media channels will remain active for a while to direct carers to appropriate resources, and we invite anyone who would like to share their positive memories of Manchester Carers Centre to click here.
Finally, we ask for your understanding as we navigate this difficult transition. We remain passionate about raising the profile of carers and advocating for their needs, and we trust that the wider sector will continue this vital work.
Thank you all for your support, for your understanding, and for being part of our journey.
With gratitude and respect,
The Board and CEO of Manchester Carers Centre
